Now OG Dark souls has its fair share of bad and terrible bosses but it also has some truly amazing, memorable fights. The enemy placement is intentionally designed to be cheap by tossing heaps of enemies at you, with no attempt to make the fights fun just more enemy=better, this actually gets worse in NG+ as the game adds in red phantom enemies on top of the already annoying enemy placements and even into some of the boss fights just to make those a little bit worse. The level design of Dark Souls 2 is a stain on a series renowned for incredible level design and world building, I genuinely can't think of a single area in the game I would say is great, not to mention how little sense the world building makes, for example why is there an elevator in a big windmill which leads into a vast volcanic landscape in the sky?
I wasn't.ĭark Souls 2 is what you get if you take the original Dark Souls, then toss away the great interwoven level design, the smart enemy encounters/placement, the few good memorable boss fights and then sprinkle on some layers of adaptability, soul memory and heaps of content bloat. I played DS 2:SOTFS a little while back and though it still isn't a great game, it was much more enjoyable than I remembered my last Dark Souls 2 experience being, so I thought i'd play the OG Dark Souls 2 cause maybe I was wrong. When I 1st played Dark Souls 2 on my PS3 back in 2014 It became the most disappointing game I have ever played, for a comparison prior to that it was Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly.
